Ada Schenck
Violin Maker & Repair/Restorer
Ada Schenck studied violin making and repair under Roman Barnas at Boston’s North Bennet Street School, where she graduated with honors in June 2023, receiving the Excellence in Craftsmanship award from the NBSS board of advisors. With experience building instruments under her own name and working for noted restorer Christian Schabbon, Ada offers repair, restoration, and adjustment services at Jovial Cellos. Ada has a diverse background in woodworking and music, and was a professional handweaver in her teens, and has found the precision and artistry of violin making a natural fit. She builds violins and violas following the methods and patterns of the great 17th and 18th century masters, and with a careful attention to detail and using premier materials, her instruments are highly playable and satisfying for contemporary musicians. Ada enjoys a collaborative approach in all of her work, and looks forward to helping musicians keep their instruments in healthy playing condition.
